HALLOWEENER DOGS -FROM THE BEGINNING
By Ric Allan LaFollette
Halloweener Dogs began in 2023, and from a very simple idea. While walking around the dog park early that summer, my thoughts somehow drifted to Halloween. Being from the state of Michigan where Halloween is massively celebrated, I was indoctrinated since early childhood into its culture. Every year I love to decorate up my house, host halloween horror movie parties, and even organize block parties for Halloween night. The thought just came out of the aether and struck me: kids always have special trick or treating events for Halloween, in addition to the regular trick or treating they get to enjoy on Halloween night. Then I thought about how people love dogs in Halloween costumes. So why not let the dog have its day? As the saying goes.
After reaching out to friends who are also pet lovers, we decided the idea just might work out. Thus Halloweener Dogs was born! I immediately started designing and printing flyers which I used to reach out to fellow visitors of the dog park to gauge their interest and see who might want to get involved. Having several people volunteer their time and effort into making it happen is what helped turn it into a success that first year, and I knew we were onto something special that could last for years or longer. Every year since that first year has just gotten better and better, and I hope it never stops growing and being a special event for the community. An event that is looked forward to every October by people and dogs alike.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
